FRIENDS spring 2011

Here it is, my semi-annual Friends fashion post. Pulling from the spring 2011 collections, here’s what I think Monica, Phoebe and Rachel would be wearing if the show were still on today.

MONICA

1. No. 21 - There’s an episode in the later seasons where Monica wears a green knit sweater at the coffee shop and it’s one of my favorite styling moments on the show because the color is so great for her. I’d like to see her in green again and since spring is all about white white white the skirt is an obvious choice. She’ll be able to show off her tan legs that she got from that surf contest.

2. Carlos Miele - Monica’s closet doesn’t have much print in it but she loves herself a bold color. I doubt she would shy away from the bright pants trend this season. In fact, she would bring the house down in these orange trousers. There’d be no problems firing people at the restaurant in such a powerful color.

3. Bottega Veneta - Monica is a very no-fuss dresser which is why I picked this flowy silk dress for her. Worn with the practical hobo and no jewelry, I imagine Mrs. Bing would wear this on a Saturday at the park with little Jack and Erica.

PHOEBE

1. Betty Jackson - This look is like Phoebe grown up with a little 50’s retro flair. The Phebester would definitely rock some socks with sandals and a show stopping necklace. Had she worn this look to meet Mike’s parents they would have been smitten. Then again, there aren’t enough dresses in the world to make up for the pimp spit story.

2. Chloe - I can’t recall a styling moment where Phoebe was devoid of bright colors or pattern but I think she would look white hot in this little number. The swingy tea length hem and belt keep it from being boring so maybe worn with her crazy homemade shoes she would go for it.

3. Erdem - Phoebes would welcome the mixed prints trend with open arms. Thanks to the lessons from Ross, she could go for a casual bike ride in this outfit. I bet her grown up bike looks something like this.

RACHEL

1. Derek Lam - It was hard to pick only one look from this collection because no doubt about it, Rachel would have worn everything. Simple yet trendy is how I would describe her style and this look definitely exemplifies that. This would be a hit at the Ralph Lauren offices but if Ralph ever saw her in the elevator wearing Lam there might be hell to pay.

2. L’Wren Scott - In ‘The One With All The Kissing’ Rachel wore this yellow dress and people went BONKERS for it. The green jacket above has a similar feel and these shoes with, like, little strappies on them wouldn’t make her calves look fat.

3. Yves Saint Laurent - The woman works in fashion so she knows that the words black, jumpsuit and belt are always gold. This would have been a good look for Paris had she actually gone but thank goodness she got off the plane.
