Denim Decisions
I was on the fence about which of my jean jackets to cut into a vest so I had to really take into consideration their fits. jacket #1 (vintage Tommy Hilfiger thrifted for $10) is much looser in the arms and will be good to wear over sweaters come fall so I opted to slice up #2 (purchased from The Gap in 2002 for around $50), which you can see is much more tailored in at the waist and has a shorter length.
the cutting part was easy. I just cut right along the sleeve seam and then cut down a bit further to open up the arm hole more so that shirt sleeves won’t look all crazy and bunched up coming through.
and lest you think denim vests are reserved only for punkers, don’t forget that they are smart layering pieces and can be super prepped up too. see: here.
